After more than a century of life, Sister Valeria Foltz of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters (OLVM) still holds dear a memory of her family gathering together after their evening meal and praying the rosary together. “We always did it. I loved it.”
She was born in Humphrey, Neb., Nov. 12, 1919, the ninth child of Stephen Foltz and Mary Wemhoff. She was baptized Nov. 14, two days later, by Father Laurentius Pauly, O.F.M. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. She is a graduate of St. Mary of the Angels School and St. Francis High School, Humphrey, Nebraska and of Mount St. Mary College, Los Angeles, Calif.
“What I remember (about St. Francis) is Brother Simon.” He would never pass by a classroom without stopping and makinga visit, and I so admired him for that,” she said.
