Option enrollment students bring in state aid and lower local taxes — no wonder they are in high demand by many school districts.
David Jespersen, Nebraska Department of Education Administrator Office of Public Information & Communications, said, “It’s a huge competition to get option students because of the funding that comes with an option student, and districts are bending over backwards to recruit kids because up in your area, Humphrey is getting $500,000 for 40 kids.”
As Humphrey Public School plans for a $29.5 million bond election Nov. 5 for a 7-12 facility, option enrollment students is an issue that keeps popping up.
