Freshmen step up for Flyers

The future is the present. St. Francis got big contributions Saturday from its underclassmen to defeat Burwell 67-46.

Freshmen Carson Wessel scored 24 points, Gage Braun added 12, and Tucker Czarnick scored 8 and had 6 rebounds.

“We’re pretty darn young, so it’s important that all of those guys develop,” head coach Eric Kessler said. “Devon Baumgart did a good job defensively, and he’s a young player, Carson Wessel’s developing. (Friday) night was a big learning experience for those guys. We didn’t come out on the right end of things, but it was a quality team we played, and we’re going to have to be big boys. Those guys play a lot, and they have a lot of potential.”
