On May 22, the Humphrey FFA planted the field, with help from Bill Classen and FFA member Ty Classen.

A couple FFA members help get the planter ready and checked out the mapping program.

“We planted approximately 15.1 acres of corn, using 2 short season corn numbers. We decided to use different plant populations in the field to see the impact on yields. 1/3 of field is 24,000/ acre, 1/3 is 26,000/acre and 1/3 is 28,000 per acre,” FFA advisor Robyn Graham said. “We are utilizing CLIMATE to map our nutrients, planting populations, and harvest production. A starter fertilizer was applied when planted and we had the field sprayed by CVA for weed control. We did take out a small Wind and Hail policy to protect our investment, incase of a storm damage, so we don’t lose what we have currently invested. We are glad that we did this, as the field was damaged by hail and wind in the July 4 storm.”
