The tax authority bill was discussed Aug. 14 by the Humphrey Public School Board of Education.

LB 243 was passed by the Nebraska Unicameral during its last session and states each school district is able to tax their general fund and building fund using calculations from student enrollment growth, poverty and English language proficiency.

Superintendent Brice King said HPS was helped by its student enrollment growth to gain additional property tax authority. Also included in the formula is state funding.
