Jim passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, at his home in Norfolk, surrounded by his loving family after battling cancer.

James Joseph “Jim” Kuchar was born July 18, 1949, to Willard and Lucille (Kirby) Kuchar. He grew up on the family farm south of Meadow Grove. Jim attended Lindsay Holy Family High School, graduating in 1967. He also graduated from St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1971.

Jim married Joyce Brandl on June 5, 1971. Jim and Joyce were blessed with six children, Brenda, Kevin, Mark, Brian, Debbie, and Allen. They made their home on a farm west of Madison. Jim taught at Humphrey High School, Madison Public High School, and St. Leonard’s before becoming a full-time farmer.

He was a member of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and St. Leonard’s Cemetery Board. Jim and Joyce retired and moved to Norfolk. He loved spending time walleye fishing with Joyce, racing pigeons with the Platte Valley Homing Club, golfing, and playing cards. He cherished his time with his family and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his spouse of 53 years, Joyce; daughter, Brenda (Chris) Liermann, their children Michael (Kendra) Liermann and Kari (Jarrod) Bazata, and their grandchildren, Dawson, Maverick, and Rowan Liermann; son, Kevin Kuchar and his

daughter, Madline Kuchar; son, Mark (Chrissy) Kuchar, and their children, Alexis, Kylee, Wyatt, and Samantha; Brian’s daughter, Emma (Ryan) Schulz and their daughter, Maggie; daughter, Debbie (Jake) Brabec and their children, Jack, Kaylee, Easton, and Kash; son, Allen (Regina) Kuchar and their children, Payton, Ella, Emmett, and Liam; and Jim’s siblings, Charlie (Piyamon) Kuchar, Marianne Champoux, Steve (Betty Lou) Kuchar, Lee (Gene) Martischang, Dennis (Ruth) Kuchar, Lucy Carruthers, Will (Linda) Kuchar, Marg (Bob) Weber, Judi (Ron) Brandl, Rick (Peg) Kuchar, Jeanne (Tom) Wagner, Rita (Alvin) Vandervoss, Joe (Marie) Kuchar, Ed (Celestine) Kuchar, and Maureen (Gene) McPhillips.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Kuchar; greatgranddaughter, Mya Bazata; parents, Willard and Lucille Kuchar; brother, Timothy Kuchar; sister, Beth Kuchar; brothers-in-law, Melvin Brandl, Gary Champoux, and Mike Carruthers; sister-inlaw, Mary Kuchar; parents-inlaw, Victor and Eileen Brandl; and several nephews.
