Judy K. Olmer

Judy K. Olmer, 69, of Leigh, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Faith Regional Center in Norfolk, Neb., surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Leigh with Father Rod Kneifl celebrating the Mass. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. vigil service, all at the church. Visitation will continue Thursday from 9 a.m. until Mass time, again at the church. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leigh. In lieu of flowers, plaques, stones, etc., memorials are suggested as those of the donor or family choice.

Judy K. (Hoessel) Olmer was born May 6, 1955, in Columbus, Neb., to Wilfred and Lorraine (Janssen) Hoessel. She graduated from Leigh High School in 1973. Judy grew up on the family farm in rural Leigh and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church until she was married.

Judy met David Olmer during a Platte Community College visit. The two were united in marriage on Nov. 30, 1974, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Neb. They were blessed with three children: Jodi, Dana, and Gina.

They took over the family farm in 1984 in rural Leigh. Judy taught Sunday school at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, worked at Equitable Savings and Loan in Columbus in her earlier years, baby sat for a while and then worked at Ivy Hallow and the Leigh World. Judy then started her favorite job of being a farmer’s wife and taking care of her own grandkids.

Some of our fondest memories of mom were her home cooked Sunday dinners at the house for the entire family, pumpkin picking in the fall at the farm, and

a trip to an apple orchard each October with an ice cream stop before heading home. She loved Christmas and always went a bit overboard. Mom enjoyed her family and friends and most of all enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother. She painted ceramics, enjoyed bead embroidery, liked to read and loved her cats and her Diet Mt. Dew.

Judy is survived by: Husband of almost 50 years David Olmer of Leigh, Neb.

Son - Dana (Susan) Olmer and their children Kaylee (Lily - great granddaughter), Kyle of Columbus, Neb.

Daughter - Gina (Casey) Van Dyke and their children Zoey, Riley, and Daisy of Leigh, Neb.
