Robert (Rob) Scott Westring

Robert (Rob) Scott Westring, 60, of Columbus passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, Dec.16, 2023.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Harrison officiating. Visitation is Wednesday 5-7 p.m. There will be a 7 p.m. Vigil service at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial is at All Saints Cemetery.

Rob was born Jan. 12, 1963, in Genoa, Neb., to Bob and Joan (Noble) Westring. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1981 and then went on to complete the Diesel Technician program at Milford. Rob was a diesel technician for many years. He owned and operated R.S. Westring Repair in Genoa until 2019, retiring due to health reasons. Most recently he enjoyed working part-time for Smith & Sons in Fullerton Rob was married to Janelle Frey on June 18, 1983. Three children were born to this union: Erica, Derek and Kirk.

On Jan. 2, 1997, Rob was married to Brenda (Gasper) Wallin and through this union was blessed with four additional children that he raised as his own: Amber, Andrew, Ashley and Tony.

Rob and Brenda meant the world to each other and built a loving family. Rob’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He loved attending all their ball games and other activities and was their biggest cheerleader/ coach. Rob was an avid storyteller, fisherman and loved racing, especially drag racing. He spent many years playing sports as well as coaching and refing. He was well-known for his immense amount of knowledge of trucks, tractors, and engines. for his work ethic, perseverance, contagious smile and kind heart.

Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda; three daughters, Erica (Jeff)) Kurtenbach of Saint Edward, Amber (Lee) Aschoff of Columbus, and Ashley (Marc) Pelster of Petersburg; four sons, Derek (Ashton) Westring of Columbus, Kirk (April) Westring of Humphrey, Andy (Carley) Wallin of Columbus, and Tony (Tanna) Wallin of Hallam; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Laurie (Bob) Hrachovec of Rapid City, SD and Missy Johnson of Lincoln; two brothers, Darren (Sheila) Westring of Genoa and Kevin (Jane) Westring of Kansas City, Mo.; one stepsister, JoEtta Jarecke of Arlington; two stepbrothers, Ken Carter of Columbus and B.J. (Lori) Carter of Columbus. Many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Joan, stepmother Bonnie and brothers-inlaw Kevin Wemhoff and Ron Jarecke.
