Vernon J. Haiar

Vernon J. Haiar, 83, of Humphrey, Neb., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at his home in Humphrey.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. Francis Catholic Church and Father Stan Schmit celebrated the Mass. Visitation was on Friday, from 5-7 p.m. and a Vigil Service was at 7 p.m. and visitation continued Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until service time, all at the church.

Interment with military honors is in St. Francis Cemetery given by the American Legion Post 80 Foltz Zuerlein & VFW Post 7725.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the family's choice. The funeral service was broadcast live on the Gass Haney Facebook page.

Vernon John Haiar was born on June 22, 1940, in Lindsay, Neb., to Jack and Eileen (Schumacher) Haiar. Vern grew up in Lindsay and graduated from Lindsay Holy Family in 1959. Later, he completed a correspondence electronics course from Los Angeles, Calif. Vern served in the National Guard from 1959 through 1965.

Vern married Corrine Stenger on May 13, 1961, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. They lived in Columbus and in 1974 they moved to Humphrey. Vern was employed at Vishay in Columbus for 45 years as a Quality Control Engineer and Supervisor. Also, he and Corrine were the proud owners of Humphrey Bowl for 27 years.

fishing trips to Minnesota, golfing, bowling, traveling and tinkering in his garage. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Holy Name Society.

Vern is survived by his wife, Corrine; his son Bob (Shari) Haiar; son Larry (Sheila) Haiar; daughter Marie (Steve) Zach; daughter Linda (Dan) Douglas; daughter Cheryl (special friend Larry Fangman) Haiar; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and brother Al (Jean) Haiar.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Eileen Haiar; daughter Catherine Haiar; granddaughter Cassie Haiar; brothers and sister-in-law Richard Haiar and Eugene (Rosie) Haiar; and sister Linda Kay Haiar.
