Sixty-one.

When we look around and see what is happening in our country, in our states, in our communities, in our schools and even in our churches, it is no wonder that the main goal is the DESTRUCTION OF FAITH. Following is an opinion I submitted to the Omaha World-Herald: We have a beautiful rural church where our grandparents, parents, children, etc. received all the sacraments. Our church and members seem to be insignificant to the Omaha Archdiocese. There is nothing more important or precious than family unity. When the bond of that family unity is broken, it is devastating. In my opinion, this is exactly what is happening in the Archdiocese. Their article referring to “creating families” is a joke. I believe they are severing parish families and destroying faith. It seems the only thing that matters to this over-controlling hierarchy is money, power and big city life. We were informed that we have to upkeep our church when our doors are closed. Hey, Omaha, we’ve been upkeeping our church for 100+ years. With all the lawsuits the Archdiocese is facing, it does make sense they are scrambling for as much money as they can get.

The iconic Vicki Lawrence will conclude the 14th Great American Comedy Festival at the Festival Gala Saturday, June 17.

The 100th alumni celebration was held at St. Francis High School Saturday, May 27, with nearly 300 attending the meal served in the gym, but many more taking part in the afternoon of visiting within the school.

Every Tuesday and Thursday in the fall, Taylor Schneider and his students start class by gathering their equipment and stretching. The 15 minutes of stretching is essential for their trips up a 400-foot wind turbine.

The St. Francis golf team traveled to Lake Maloney Golf Course outside North Platte to compete in the Class D state golf tournament on May 23-24.

We are seeing river birch trees whose branches have died from the top down. Up to half of the tree or more may not be leafing out. In most cases, the cause of river birch dieback this year is drought combined with heat and high winds experienced over the last year.

The Comstock Windmill Festival has had a good run, but this year’s festival, to be held June 8-9-10, will be the last series of concerts after 23 years.

I watched Anna walk across the stage, grab her diploma, shake hands, and walk off the stage with her ever-present smile.
